About the building:
The Hotel that mimics a sailing boat, pays a tribute to the Vander Werf family (werf in Dutch shipyard) that for several generations were boat makers. The idea brings not only aesthetics to this universe, but also functionality. The roof assumes the role of improving the thermal and acoustic performance of the building. The flooded first floor, establishes the connection with the Dutch polders and has the function of being open cisterns integrated into the landscaping.
Green walls filter out rainwater and grey water is filtered out by wetlands and also stored in polders and reused in the hotel. The beds suspended by boat ropes, swing and provide a regenerating sleep bringing a tactile sensation of being navigating on the polders consolidating the memory, according to Swiss studies published in the journal Current Biology – adults who sleep swinging consolidate the memory more easily.
The healthy and sustainable paradigm applied, is based on the use of local climate for thermal and acoustic comfort, application of non-toxic materials to maintain indoor air quality, energy efficiency, biofilia, reducing water consumption, reuse of rainwater, creation of multifunctional spaces the integration with the surroundings and the generation of autosuficiency.
