About the building

On October 3, 1947, Nevaldo Rocha founded, together with his brother, Newton Rocha, the Guararapes Group. It all started with the fabric store “A Capital”, in Natal, Rio Grande do Norte. Four years later, a small clothing store was opened in Recife, and new points of sale were acquired. In October 1956, Nevaldo and Newton officially named Guararapes and, two years later, relocated the head office to Natal, where it is maintained to this day. In 1979, they acquired the Riachuelo and Wolens chain stores, expanding their operations into textile retail.

Today, there are more than 300 stores, 40 thousand employees – about half of them in the Northeast region of Brazil -, the largest manufacturing park in Latin America, the Midway Mall shopping center in Natal, two Riachuelo theaters, in the capital of Natal and in Rio de Janeiro, and more than 30 partnerships with the main names in world fashion, putting the concept “See Now, Buy Now” definitely in the vocabulary of the Brazilians.
